Singers of Southern Tasmania

We are delighted to announce Singers of Southern Tasmania’s first concert for 2024 featuring the Emperor Mass in D by Antonio Salieri, a work of warmth and beauty. Composed in 1788, the Mass was probably written to celebrate a major military victory, but due to Emperor Joseph II’s illness was not performed until 1808.  The concert will also include works by Salieri’s contemporaries: Laudate populi by Michael Haydn, Iustus ut palma florebit by Albrechtsberger and Mozart’s much loved Ave verum corpus. Directed by Jamie Allen, the choir will be accompanied by a 22-piece orchestra in two performances:

Time: Friday 24 May at 7.30 pm & Sunday 26 May at 2.00pm.

Venue: St David’s Cathedral, Hobart.
